Sustainable choices: the new packaging of our mailboxes

Why have we decided to modify the packaging of our mailboxes, switching from a box with personalized printing and a plastic window to a box without printing and without a window?

This choice stems from the desire to improve the sustainability of our products and packaging is one of the elements we have taken into consideration.

Protecting the environment and resources has become a fundamental issue and companies, in their business activities, cannot ignore sustainability-related considerations.

In addition to the choices made by Silmec in terms of systems, we have evaluated the various aspects related to our product, focusing on packaging as well. We asked ourselves how to improve the impact of packaging and decided to work on three aspects:

  • RECYCLE: we have eliminated the plastic window that made the product contained visible. The packaging thus becomes mono-material and the recycling process is simplified.
  • MATERIAL: the boxes that contain our mailboxes are produced with recycled paper in a percentage ranging from 80% to 100%, coming from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper mills. FSC is a specific certification for the forestry sector and derived products, which guarantees responsible management in compliance with environmental, social and economic standards.
  • REUSE: choosing not to print the box, but to provide our products on unprinted boxes, encourages the possibility of giving a second life to the packaging which can thus easily be reused. We have therefore eliminated customization and consequently limited the use of resources (in terms of energy, inks, etc.) necessary to carry out this step. In the box, only the mandatory environmental labeling and certifications will be printed on the bottom. The essential information relating to the product contained will be available on the label.

By making these changes, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging and contribute to a more sustainable future.
